Body Language Skills in Business Communication

Body language is directly related to our personality. You are constantly sending messages about your thoughts and feelings, whether you are using words or not because your words are only 7% of your messages. The remaining 93% is non-verbal of which 55% communicates depends on how you look and the remaining 38% is transmitted by voice. Consider that people can see what you are not saying if your body language does not match your words, you are wasting your time.

Eye Contact:

The best way to communicate is through eye contact. When you look at another person, you show interest. When you don't make eye contact, you give the impression that the other person is not important. Therefore, it is important to keep eye contact with anyone you talk to.

Importance of Smile:

Another form of Body Language communication is facial expressions. A smile sends a positive message and is one of the best tools in communication. Smiling increases warmth and confidence. Your face will tell you what you are talking about. Mouth movements, such as chasing your lips or twisting them in a sudo, can indicate if your mind is present for what you are hearing.

Head Position in Body Language

Keeping your head straight will make you more confident and competent because the position of your head speaks to people. People will take your words seriously. Even the way you shake hands and hug people may get the wrong message.

Physical Movements

The angle of your body indicates to others what is going on in your brain. Keep your hands under control. In the business world, this means you have to keep them out of your pocket and resist the urge to keep them under the table or behind your back. It is unprofessional to place your hands anywhere on your neck, lightly brush your hair or rub your face.

Social Distance:

The distance you keep from others is very important if you want people to have good relationships. Standing too close or standing too far can affect your conversation.

Whether you know what you are saying through your body or not, others will get this message. So make sure your body is saying what you want to tell others.
